Meet the Volunteers of ABTR

ABTR BOD
Micah, Heidi and Wanda

Meet Wanda!

Born in Tennessee and my grandparents were sharecroppers who moved to the city to better their way of life. PawPaw went to school and became a barber and gave his sons an opportunity for a good education and granny was a housewife.  My dad and mom got married and he joined the Navy so I grew up a Navy Brat so moved around a lot and learned to make new friends easily.
My parents are now truckdrivers and close to retirement age and still live in Tennessee.  I now live in Texas.  But I have always had love for horses and dogs.  My first dog was a boxer when I was a baby and my second dog was a Boston Terrier named Scamper when I was about 8 years old. She was my best friend for many years.  This is probably why Bostons and Boxers have always appealed to me.
I have worked in customer service and in office environments for many years, currently I am a fulltime rescuer of my favorite breeds Bostons with an occassional boxer thrown into the mix.
I have a wonderful husband named Gareth who supports everything I do for the dogs.  He has a PhD in Biophysics or something or other (wonder why he fell for a dingbat like me? LOL )  He is currently a computer programmer looking for a job as the job market is really bad right now.  But he scoops poop, rotates dogs around, helps feed them and anything I need him to do for the dogs is done willingly as he loves the little ones too even though at heart he is a cat man.
Gareth and I have many of the same interests.  We love Science Fiction movies, comedies and we like to read.  Both of us are able to laugh at ourselves and with each other which seems to be something that
few folks do any more.  Life is sometimes a very cruel joke and you had best
learn to laugh about some of it or you will spend all your days crying and feeling sorry for yourself.
Our motto is Poop happens and usually to us, otherwise, why would we have so much puppy poop to clean? LOL

Meet Micah!

I got involved in rescue after I adopted a wonderful Boston named Jerry!  That is how I met Wanda and Heidi.  I have been working with them ever since.  I now have 4 Bostons, 1 Golden Retriever, a Chi, a cat, and a fish.  I love watching Nascar and football.
(Webmistress's Note:  Micah adopted a senior BT, Jerry, from ABTR.  You wouldn't believe what a stroke of luck that was for Jerry.  He had it made!)

Meet Heidi!

I got my start in rescue in 1999.  Since that time, I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with many, many wonderful people.  I'm a member of several different BT organizations, and I've worked as a fundraiser and webmaster for a few of them.  It was all that fundraising that prompted me to open a fun little online boutique (http://beandogscafe.com) to raise money for rescue and animal welfare organizations across the US and Canada.

I'm owned by three Boston Terriers (aka the BeanDogs):  Ollie, Jazz and Turtle.  Jazz (BARC) my first adopted rescue and Turtle (OBTRS) followed a couple years later.

I'm a proud Texas Aggie who loves hockey, A&M football and dogs of all kinds.  Especially Bully breeds!

Meet Diane!

**We DO NOT use Sue Sternberg's Assess-A-Pet or any other extreme temperament tests on our dogs.

If we used her methods to test Boston Terriers, who are usually highly stressed in a shelter environment, most of the Bostons that we have been able to save and place would be dead dogs instead of beloved dogs in new homes. That is where rescue comes into the equation and gets them out of that environment and into a home and then see how they unwind over a few days to see their true temperment while interacting with a family and not in a pandemonium of loud noises, rough handling, strange smells, and fear. So many of my babies would have been killed for being too timid, too food aggressive from starvation, too fear aggressive, too hyperactive, too something and they would not have reached their new homes and be the beloved dogs they are today so we DO NOT USE NOR DO WE RECOMMEND THIS METHOD OF TESTING!

"Dogs love their friends and bite their enemies, quite unlike people who are incapable of pure love and always have to mix love and hate." - Sigmund Freud
