This page is dedicated to all the BTs who have crossed the Bridge.  Some were taken much too early, some lived long, healthy lives, but every single one touched our lives in countless ways...

ECCLESIATES III, 19-21 it reads:
For that which befalleth the sons of man befalleth the beasts;  even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yes, they have all one breath: so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast: for all is vanity.  All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.  Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

Proverbs 12:10 reads,
"...the righteous man looks after the life of his beast...but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."

Our poster boy, Jerry
Senior dogs bring us so much joy!

You might recognize Jerry from our original "Have A Heart" logo.   Jerry is the ABTR poster boy and a dearly departed friend.

Jerry came into rescue with his much younger friend, Tom, several years ago.  While Tom was adopted out rather quickly, Jerry remained in foster care for quite some time.  Jerry was getting on in years and had several medical issues, so he didn't attract much adoption interest until one day his luck changed dramatically.

Wanda was overjoyed to receive a stellar application from a wonderful woman named Micah Murphy, who was interested in adopting ol' Jerry.  Wanda managed to get all the reference and vet checks done quickly and was very pleased with what she learned.  Jerry had found his forever home.

Micah loved Jerry as much as Wanda did, and he repaid her love and devotion many times over.  A true gentleman (& character), Jerry never failed to bring a smile to her face.  He knew how to count (2 hotdogs and don't even think about cutting one in half and giving him two halves - he knew the difference), he never met a stranger, and he was a very charming guy.  Micah took exceptional care of the aging fellow, taking him in for massages to ease his aches and she made sure he never knew a painful day.  Not that he would ever let on that he was in pain...  Jerry was a strong and sensitive Boston.  Nothing would dim his spirits.

Ultimately, time and age took their toll on sweet Jerry.  He no longer enjoyed all the things that once brought him so much happiness, and his mom did the kindest thing she could do for him.  She sent him to the Bridge.

Although Jerry's no longer physically with us, he will always be here in spirit.  Each of us has a piece of Jerry in our heart and we will continue to work for all Bostons in his honor.    We love and miss you terribly, ol' boy.

Jerry worked a lot of miracles in his time.  Not the least of which was bringing Micah to Boston Terrier Rescue.  She now serves as the VP and Transportation Coordinator for American Boston Terrier Rescue.

Pappy

Pappy was a rescue in Georgia.  The sweet old man went to the Bridge in his sleep on Tuesday night, June 6, 2003.  He was loved and cared for in his last days by our friend, Wayne Fulkerson.

Mrs. Beasley

**Our sweet Mrs. Beasley went to the Bridge in her sleep Saturday night, April 26, 2003.  Poor little dear's heart just couldn't keep up, but she left this world peacefully.**

Mrs. Beasley was a lovely half white faced BT. She was about 3-5 years of age. She looked like she was about to pop with puppies, but her mammaries were not developed.  She seemed to get on with everyone, but when you are so fat you are miserable and can't do anything but waddle, you may not feel up to giving anyone a piece of your mind.
Mrs. Beasley was up to date on her shots and was spayed, as she was not pregnant but severely bloated.  She also had a strange tattoo on her belly with s cirlce and slash with a 2 and a 4 in it. We were thinking she was a puppy mill baby. She seemed to be housebroken and was just sweet as could be.

Miss Nipper

Sweet old Nipper has also crossed the Bridge.  She was loved and cared for in her final months by her adoptive family.  Ultimately, kidney failure claimed our little black and white friend, but we'll always remember her lovely grey face and sweet disposition.

Rest in peace, ol' girl.

Duke

ABTR's second senior poster boy, Duke, crossed the Bridge Saturday night, November 1, 2003.

Duke was one of seven older BTs surrendered to rescue in 2002.  While his exact age was unknown, he was estimated to be at least 12-13 years old.  His body couldn't keep up with his spririt and he passed away in his sleep.

Ol' Duke left a trail of tears in his wake.  He touched everyone who met him.  Everyone who knew Duke loved him instantly -- he was that kind of guy.  And no one misses him more than his foster mom, Wanda.

RIP Dukie, we all miss you.

Mae West, July 2004

Sweet senior Mae West passed away Sunday, December 12, 2004.  MaeMae came to us by way of the good folks at the Plano Shelter who picked her up as a stray.

Mae's history is unknown, but we do know that she wasn't well cared for and that she was bred over and over again.  To someone out there, Miss MaeMae was probably nothing more than a puppy producing machine.

The reality is that this wonderful half-blind, mostly deaf sweetheart of a dog had more spirit and sass in her than most dogs half her age.  She had horribly wobbly back legs due to luxating patellas and most probably, because she was bred over and over without being given time to recuperate.  Despite that, she really loved her walks.

MaeMae holds a special place in my heart and will always be remembered with love.

Rest comfortably, old girl.  I love you.

Sani - Navajo meaning 'the old one'

Sani was a very dignified, sweet guy with a wonderful face and personality.   He was being tested for Cushings, but passed away before we got conclusive results.  Sani was appx 10 years old and was a beautiful seal and white BT and although we only had him for a short while, he will be greatly missed.

Sani, birthdate unknown.
Gone too soon - December 20, 2004

Duke Chippewa - August 2005

Sweet Duke Chippewa was our resident toy nazi. It was rare to see this boy without a toy in his mouth, but on occasion, you could find our little man laid out on his favorite bed - on his back!

Duke C. was approximately 6 or 7 years old and was diagnosed with Cushings Disease shortly after he came to ABTR. Not that you'd ever know Duke wasn't well... He was such a happy-go-lucky boy who loved his hot dogs, his toys and loved to play tug of war with Momo and Squeaky, his favorite Boston playmates.

Dukie was one of those extra special Bostons who touched the heart of everyone he met. He had a very large fan club which included many, many ABTR supporters and adopters, as well as the Board of Directors. As popular as he was, no one loved Dukie as much as ABTR's President and Duke's foster momma, Wanda.

We know Duke is at the Bridge with all his Boston brothers and sisters, and he's probably being fitted for his new wings right now. But we have a hunch he found ol' Jerry first and they probably shared a few hot dogs while they shared their stories and talked of their love for their rescue savior, Momma Wanda.

God Speed, Sweet Duke. You're sorely missed.

Birthdate: Unknown

Beautiful Maureen O'Hara - aka Reno

Maureen O'Hara aka Reno's story coming soon...

Miss Pima

Pima was a housebroken 10-12 year old female from North Richland Hills, TX.  She was found in an apt complex with a note attached to her collar that read, "Please find me a good home."  The ACO contacted rescue, as Pima was not doing well at the shelter.  She was very depressed and was likely mourning for her family.
Pima liked her naps and loved to ride, and now she's at the Bridge where she'll be forever young and happy.  We'll miss you, old girl.

Pima - Birthdate unknown, left us too soon, May 17, 2004.

Comanche in February 2004

Comanche was a 5 year old male that was picked up as a stray.  He was a quiet guy who enjoyed his naps, but was very friendly and loved his attention.   Comanche also had an unusual bit of blue in the lower part of the iris in his right eye, and a bit of white on the tip of one of his ears, so we was quite distinctive.

He was a housetrained little guy and was just as sweet as he could be.

Very little was known of his history and his medical condition continued to deteriorate while in rescue.  He became listless and his system depressed, so we thought it best to end his misery and send him to the Bridge where he would be free of his maladies and forever young and playful.

We'll miss you, Comanche.

Comanche - Birthdate unknown, gone too soon May 14, 2004.

Gabe Versteeg

Gabe's story coming soon...

Sweet Napoleon - January 2004

Our beloved Napoleon was another of our wonderfully special seniors here at ABTR. He was the honorary ABTR spokesdog at Wanda's house and everyone who met Poly loved him. He was just that kind of guy.

Napoleon and his sister, Josephine, were dumped at the Baton Rouge animal shelter because they were senior dogs who had developed cancerous tumors and their owner wouldn't take the time and effort to find a way to get them treated. Instead of caring for these two wonderful dogs in their old age, their former guardian dumped them. Nice, huh?

That's how they ended up at ABTR. Wanda had them both checked out and treated. Josephine's cancer took her from us just a few short months later, but Napoleon held on for two years. He went thru several ups and downs, but he always seemed to bounce back. Even after losing both of his eyes to cancer, it was hard to hold that little old man down. He was a fighter and he had more spunk and charisma in his little 12 lb body than you can imagine.

Wanda always said that once his quality of life diminished, she'd "do the unhappy task of easing his pain humanely with someone who loves him holding and loving him so he will go in peace," and that's exactly what she did.

Our beautiful Napoleon was sent to the Bridge the afternoon of September 23, 2005. Let there be no doubt that no one on earth loved this little dog more than his Momma Wanda, but there was always someone else who showed her love for Poly each and every chance she got, and that was his Auntie Micah. He was very, very special to them both.

Both of these amazing women deserve our thanks and our respect for showing this little old dog more love in 2 years than most dogs (or people) receive in a lifetime.

Bonkers

**Sweet little Bonkers died of a heart attack the night of Wednesday, May 14.  He leaves behind his brother, Bonzai, and his rescuer and foster mom, Wanda.  Both loved him very much.
You'll be missed, Bonkers.**

Bonkers was a sweet 5 year old owner surrender because they had kids and tossed the dogs in the backyard for the past 2 years. Poor baby was loaded with fleas when picked up. Bonkers and Bonzai were surrendered together. They were a good pair as they slept and snuggled together and played well with others. They were to be adopted as a pair.  Bonkers was friendly and a loving little guy. He was heartworm/lyme/erlichia negative, up to date on 7 in1, bordatella and rabies. Bonkers weighed 15.7 lbs. He was so cute. Bonkers was crate trained and seemed to be housebroken.

Miss Skippy Kellar

Our grand old dame, Miss Skippy, has passed away.  She was such a special old girl and she'll be remembered with a lot of love.  She left behind her Mom, Connie Kellar, and her two BT rescue siblings, Archie and Molly.

Sadly, we will be adding memorials for several of our friends that have gone to the Bridge in recent months.

Just this side of heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to The Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross The Rainbow Bridge together. . . .

"If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where ever they went." - Will Rogers
